“I have plantar fasciitis and custom orthotics from my podiatrist. The footbed came out in one piece and my orthotic dropped straight in. First pair in years I can wear from breakfast to bedtime.”

“Twelve-hour shifts on a hospital floor. No break-in at all — I wore them the day they arrived and my knees and lower back were fine that night. That has never happened to me before.”

“Bunion on one foot, arthritis in the other. I needed depth for an insert and room across the forefoot, and I got both. My toes are not locked in the way they were in my old walking shoes.”

 HSA & FSA questions

Are Mephisto shoes HSA/FSA eligible?

Eligible Mephisto styles can be purchased with HSA or FSA funds via our partner Truemed. Eligibility depends on your individual health needs, not only on the shoe. At checkout, you complete a short online health survey. If a licensed practitioner determines the shoes support a qualifying health need, you can pay with pre-tax HSA/FSA dollars. Look for the HSA/FSA badge on eligible styles.

Do I need a prescription or Letter of Medical Necessity?

You don't need a prescription or a doctor's visit, but a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is needed, Truemed manages the process for you. During checkout, you will answer a brief clinical questionnaire on Truemed. An independent licensed practitioner reviews the questionnaire, if you qualify a LMN will be issued. The LMN is stored in your Truemed account and can support future qualifying purchases.

Which styles qualify?

Styles marked with the HSA/FSA badge are eligible for Truemed checkout. Please review eligible styles on our FSA/HSA collection page.

Can I use my HSA/FSA card directly at checkout?

Yes. Select Truemed as your payment method, enter your HSA or FSA card and complete the short health survey. If you'd rather use a regular credit or debit card, you can do that and get reimbursed from your HSA/FSA afterward using your Letter of Medical Necessity and receipt. If you don't qualify, the hold on your HSA/FSA card is released and you can choose another payment method.

What if my HSA/FSA card is declined?

Most declines come from the card or account, not necessarily the order. Check that every item in your cart has the HSA/FSA badge and that your available balance covers the total. Confirm your card is activated and if you have an HSA, make sure your funds aren't invested. You can also pay with a personal card and request reimbursement from your plan. Contact Truemed at support@truemed.com for help.

How much can I save?

HSA and FSA dollars are pre-tax, so you essentially save the income tax you'd otherwise pay on that money. Your actual savings depend on your tax bracket and plan. Qualified customers save an average of about 30%*. Individual results vary.

When does my FSA money expire?

Most FSAs are "use it or lose it," meaning unspent funds are forfeited at the end of your plan year. Some employers allow a grace period of up to two and a half months, or a carryover amount into the next year, but a plan can offer only one. Check with your benefits administrator for your deadline. HSA funds never expire and roll over year to year.

Can I combine HSA/FSA with a discount or sale price?

Yes. You can use eligible promo codes and sale pricing with HSA/FSA checkout through Truemed and the discounted total is what's charged to your HSA or FSA card.

How do returns work on an HSA/FSA purchase? Does the refund go back to my card?

Mephisto HSA/FSA purchases follow our standard return policy. Refunds go back to the original payment method, if payment was made with a HSA or FSA card, the funds will be returned to that account. HSA/FSA refunds can take longer than bank refunds, typically 5 to 10 business days after we process your return. If your account has since closed, contact your former plan provider.

Do Mephisto shoes work with custom orthotics?

Many Mephisto styles have a removable anatomical footbed, which can be removed and your own custom orthotics inserted. Look for "removable footbed" on the product page, and consider Mephisto Mobils styles for extra depth. If you're unsure about fit with your orthotic, contact our team before ordering.
